Both Pella Christian squads beat Des Moines Christian Friday night on Eagle Lane. The softball squad won 11-4 in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS, while the baseball team won 6-3.

The Eagles softball team, which was shutout in its season opener Monday against Pleasantville, trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning against the Lions when Ivy Terpstra finally got P.C. on the board with an RBI double and Cheyene Collins followed with a two-run homer to straight away center field.

Pella Christian pounded out 14 hits and scored multiple runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and Harrill said that they just needed that spark from Terpstra and Collins to get it going.

HARRILL ON HITTING
“We talk a lot about getting a couple hits together and then everybody hits, but we just needed somebody to start that. We’ve been hitting like crazy in the hitting shed and off live arms, so it was a little frustrating to see them hit so well in practice and then struggle in a game. But I thought we relaxed a little tonight.”

Chloe Morgan led the Eagles with three hits, and Collins, Terpstra, Natalie Harrill and Sierra Pleima each had two. Collins had three runs, and she tied Harrill, Pleima and Sydney Nunnikhoven with a team high two RBI.

The Eagles are 1-1 on the season and will travel to Albia on Tuesday night. Pella Christian’s baseball team improves to 2-1, and will join the ladies on the road to take on the Blue Demons.
