The Indianola softball team swept Newton in a doubleheader with identical 5-1 decisions Wednesday evening, making up a pair of games that were rained out Tuesday.
In game one, the Indians struck first to take a 1-0 lead with a Gracey May single in the first, with a Destiny Lewis two-run double in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals got one back in the third, but Lewis’s bat stayed hot as she hit a two-run home run in the sixth to put the Indians up 5-1 which was the final tally. Kate Kralik got the win in the circle, with Brooke Tucker coming in to finish the game.
In game two, the Cardinals were up 1-0 until the bottom of the 4th, when Emily Chaplin hit a double to tie the score at 1, before Lewis once again struck with a single to give the Indians a 2-1 lead going into the sixth. Chapman again drove in another run to make it a 3-1 advantage, and the Indians added on two more for an identical 5-1 advantage. The win puts Indianola at 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, and will next play tonight against Des Moines Lincoln in a game that can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA. Pregame begins at 7:15pm, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play.
