Three costly errors in the eighth inning — one by Southeast Warren and two by Pella Christian, ultimately cost the Eagles in a 3-2 loss to the No. 5 in Class 1A Warhawks, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Both teams pitched to a 1-1 draw after seven innings in a pitching dominant contest. The Eagles struck first with a home run by Will Dembski in the top of the first, only for Southeast Warren to fight back with a double by his counterpart on the mound Bryce Hall to tie it. Then Hall, and relief pitcher Lawson Bruxvoort, held off several chances from both teams to push it to extras. With two runners on, the Warhawks dropped what would of been the 3rd out of the top of the 8th, giving Pella Christian a 2-1 lead, and the Eagles and Bruxvoort got the first two outs in short order in the bottom half. But a walk, double, and intentional walk later loaded the bases for SE Warren, and a wild pitch and throwing error on a pickoff attempt at 3rd allowed the tying and winning runs to score on consecutive pitches.

Pella Christian stranded 12 runners in the contest as well. Devin Haveman and Kyle Branderhorst each had two hits for P.C. The Eagles fall to 2-2 and return to action at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont invitational Saturday.

The Eagles softball team defeated Southeast Warren in Milo 8-2. Natalie Harrill, Ivy Terpstra, Danielle Vande Voort, and Chloe Morgan all had multi-hit games and scored runs. Pella Christian, after falling behind the first inning, put up two runs in the 3rd and three in the 5th and 7th. The Eagles are 2-1 and head to Oskaloosa Saturday for tournament action.
