Several members of the Pella track and field program participated in a special meet to end their high school careers this weekend. Nick DeJong, Jordan Buma, Metsje Miller, and Evie Armstrong all participated in the Iowa Track Coaches Association Senior All-Star event in Iowa City. Nick DeJong, the Class 3A shot put champion, had a toss of 55 feet, 5 ¾ inches to win the all-star event title. DeJong had a discuss throw of 152 and 3 inches to place 7th in the discus. Jordan Buma, who was on the 3rd place in 3A shuttle hurdle team at the state meet, placed 3rd on the shuttle hurdle relay team from the South team, 4th individually in the 110 hurdles (15.46), 1st in the 200 meter dash (23.88), and 3rd place in the 4×400 relay. Metsje Miller, who was on the 2nd fastest 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams at state this May, was the first leg of the meet champion sprint medley relay for the South Girls team, ran the 2nd fastest 100 meter dash (13.00), was the 3rd leg on the 3rd place 4×200 team, and on the 4th place 4×100 team. Evie Armstrong–also on the runner up sprint relays for Pella at Drake Stadium, was on the meet champion 4×100 team for the south girls, 2nd fastest 200 meter time (27.54), had the 5th farthest long jump, and on the 3rd place distance medley team. The meet was held Saturday afternoon at Iowa City West High School.
