For the second time in three years, the Pella Christian girls soccer team was on the doorstep to a first state tournament appearance, but the No. 7 Nevada Cubs stood in the way, slamming the door in a 3-1 loss for P.C. Monday. Despite only getting outshot 9 to 5 on frame, the Eagles gave up three first half goals that ultimately gave the Cubs an 8th consecutive trip to Des Moines. The Eagles took a more aggressive approach in the second half after falling into a deep hole, and eventually scored on a direct kick by Annika Terpstra just outside the 18 yard penalty box. Pella Christian had several other close chances to score, according to Head Coach Mike Buchheit, but the Cubs didn’t give in defensively. The Eagles wrap up a season on which they were ranked in seven consecutive weeks and reached as high as No. 10 in Class 1A. Lindsay Breon and Claire Milligan have graduated from the team, who finishes 10-9.
