With both teams in the Red Rock rivalry looking to charge up their bats after early season offensive slumps, the runs came in bunches in a 9-7 Pella win over Knoxville on the baseball diamond, heard on both KNIA and KRLS.

Pella struck first in the bottom of the 1st, scoring five runs, only for the Panthers to respond with four tallies in the top of the 2nd. After the Dutch put up a three spot in the bottom of the 3rd, the Panthers again bounced back with two more runs in the next half inning. Both would each score one more time, before Warren Page slammed the door shut on Knoxville with his first save of the season in the game’s only 1-2-3 inning, that came in the top of the seventh.

For Pella, Ben Akers finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run, Noah Van Vark had a two-run double, and Nick Grandia had two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base. Knoxville was led by a monster home run from Carter Bailey and Kaleb Streigle had three hits.

Pella improves to 2-3, while Knoxville drops to 1-8. The Dutch have a doubleheader tonight against Indianola — hear the softball game on 92.1 KRLS, and the baseball game on 94.3 KNIA, with pregame beginning at approximately 5:15 p.m. Knoxville welcomes Chariton for a home baseball doubleheader and single varsity contest.
