Pella sent two doubles pairs to Des Moines for the 1A State Coed Tennis Tournament Tuesday. The groups of Brooke Jorgensen/Jordan Roozeboom and Abbie Nunnikhoven/Matthew Thompson competed. Jorgensen and Rozenboom, the 6th place and 8th place individuals in their respective singles and doubles state appearances this year, were the overall runners-up in the meet.

Jorgensen/Roozeboom defeated Buffalo/Muslif 6-0, 6-0 in the first round. The second round finished with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over the Clarke team of Linskens/Reynoldson. In the Quarterfinals, Jorgensen/Roozeboom met the Fairfield team containing the 1A Girls Singles Champion Gaskell/Holden and the Dutch won that match 7-5, 6-2. In the Semifinals, the Dutch Team defeated Jasper/Johnson of CR Xavier 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the Finals, where Jorgensen/Roozeboom ultimately ended as Runners-Up after falling 1-6, 1-6 to Champions Hogan/Buchanan of Waterloo Columbus.

Nunnikhoven/Thompson started with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kaldenberg/Padilia of Albia before falling 0-6, 1-6 to Wright/ClarkWilt of Norwalk.

The State Coed Tournament marks the final high school matches for seniors Thompson, Nunnikhoven, and Jorgensen, who was a four-time individual state qualifier and two-time 3rd place finisher. Jordan Roozeboom, junior, will return to lead the state runner up Pella boys tennis team.
