The Central College athletics department announced this spring that men’s track and field athlete Will Daniels and women’s volleyball player Chapel Carter as the male and female senior student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPAs. Daniels carries a perfect 4.0 GPA and received his degree in biology after only three years. He has won a pair of national titles indoors in the heptathlon and an outdoor title in the decathlon. He’s been named to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-American team one and was the Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2018. Daniels is heading to the University of Iowa to start working towards a master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology. He will enroll in medical school following the master’s degree. A three-time academic all-conference honoree, Carter maintains a 3.89 GPA as an elementary education major. She was the team’s Jamie Hill Most Valuable Player in 2018 and also received the Mart and Elva Mae Heerema Achievement Award. Carter is moving south to Tennessee in pursuit of a teaching position.
