The Pella softball team found a pair of wins at the Waverly-Shell Rock Softball Classic Saturday. Pella defeated the hosts 9-7 and Sumner-Fredericksburg 5-2. The contest against the Go-Hawks was a big comeback for the Lady Dutch, who trailed 7-0 after the top of the 2nd. Pella took the lead in a five run fourth inning. Maddie Parks hit her first home run of 2019 and earned the win pitching in relief, throwing three scoreless innings, and Maddy Rempe had two hits and a stolen base. It was a late inning stretch that pushed Pella past Sumner-Fredericksburg, highlighted by three stolen bases by Parks and three runs driven in by Maddy Rempe and two by 8th grader Kylie Tauke. Pella travels with the baseball team to Grinnell tonight — hear the softball game live on 92.1 KRLS, with pregame coverage starting at 7:15 p.m. The Eagles baseball and softball teams head to Oskaloosa this evening as well.
