The Pella softball team returned to Little Hawkeye conference action Monday evening as they traveled to take on Grinnell in a game heard on 92.1 KRLS. The Lady Dutch fell just short in a back-and-forth contest, falling by a final score of 6-5. Each team scored one run apiece in the first and third innings, and the fifth inning started with a 2-2 tie. The Dutch scored two runs in the fifth, courtesy of RBI’s from Maddy Rempe and Alizabeth Van Dusseldorp, giving Pella a 4-2 lead. Grinnell would answer in a big way in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs to take a 6-4 lead which they would never relinquish. A sac fly by Ally Almond in the top of the seventh scored a run to give the Dutch some hope for a comeback, but the Tigers retired the side before the Dutch could strike again.

Senior Maddie Parks had a fantastic night at the plate, going 4-4 with a triple and an RBI. Courtney Thompson and Alizabeth Van Dusseldorp had two hits apiece. Parks also pitched the complete game, giving up six runs, all earned, nine hits, two walks and struck out five batters.

The Lady Dutch drop to 8-10 overall, 1-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference and will be back in action when they travel to take on Pella Christian for a doubleheader. Both games will be streamed online on KRLS3.

Despite Warren Page hitting the first home run of his career and a gem of a game from Ryan Mace on the mound, the Pella baseball team could not overcome Grinnell in a 2-1 loss. The Dutch, after four hits early, were set down 16 in a row by Jake Hull of the Tigers. Mace struck out eleven and only allowed three hits, but an unearned run was the difference between the teams after a Pella error.

Both the Pella baseball and softball teams will travel to Pella Christian for the Tulip City Showdown, with both games of baseball on 92.1 KRLS,
