A huge comeback completed the season sweep for the Pella Christian baseball team over Grinnell, winning 7-6 Wednesday night at home. The Eagles fell behind 2-0, with the first run coming on a Dan Jungling sac fly RBI in the bottom of the 4th. Grinnell scored three more — two unearned in the top of the 6th, and added another in the 7th. The Eagles stormed back in the final frame, including an RBI triple by Blake Veenstra following a Jungling leadoff walk, followed by a Kyle Branderhorst RBI single and a base knock driving in another by Will Dembski. Devin Haveman, representing the winning run, also had an RBI single. After an out, Cole Webster tied the game with a hit, only for Stone Turner to walk off a winner with a single of his own. It capped a six-run final inning, with the Eagles only giving one of the three outs they had afforded to them to make the comeback complete.

The softball team was on the wrong side of a 7-6 loss to Grinnell next door at Eagle Lane. It went back and forth — the Tigers struck first in the opening inning, only for P.C. to answer with two with RBI singles from Emerson Sarver and Emri Agre. Grinnell got the lead back 3-2 in the top of the 3rd, and the Eagles responded again with three, highlighted by Agre’s first career home run. Pella Christian added another in the fourth, but the Tigers had the last laugh, scoring once in the 6th and twice in the 7th to win.

Pella Christian’s baseball boys are now 10-10; the girls fall to 7-14 — both are at home tonight for two against DCG — hear the Eagles baseball team on 92.1 KRLS, with pregame at 5:15 p.m.
