Pella Christian’s baseball team split a double-header with league leading Dallas Center-Grimes as heard last night live on 92.1 KRLS.  The Mustangs won the opener 7-2, while the Eagles bounced back to take the nightcap 6-2.

P.C. jumped in front in game one on a first inning two-run double by Cole Webster, but that was all they could muster as the defense committed seven errors behind a solid pitching performance from Devin Haaveman.

Game two was tied 2-2 after three innings, despite Pella Christian being held without a hit.  In the fourth, they finally broke through with an RBI double by Lawson Bruxvoort and a three-run double by Matthew Bokhoven.  That was more than enough help for Will Dembski, who struck out ten Mustangs in six innings of work.

Coach Jeff Bruxvoort says that it’s evident why they lost game one, and likewise why they won game two.

“What we didn’t do well in game one, we did well in game two.  I’m proud of our guys for coming back and playing good defense behind Will, and for coming up with some timely hits in game two as well.”

Pella Christian is now 11-11 on the season and 8-8 in Little Hawkeye Conference play.  They’re off until a single varsity game Monday at Newton — which can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Next door on the softball field, the Eagles were swept by the No. 7 in Class 4A Fillies 8-2 and 10-2. Chloe Morgan had four hits over the twin bill and Emerson Sarver had three — all in game one. Pella Christian falls to 7-16 overall, and head to the Don Bosco Tournament today and tomorrow.
