Knoxville City Councilman Cal Stephens resigned from the council Wednesday morning after serving more than three and a half years. Stephens, who grew up in Knoxville and lived here a majority of his life, wanted to make a statement to the people of Knoxville.

“Just want everybody to know, my resignation from the city council was entirely of a private nature. I would like to clarify it had nothing to do with any other personnel, any event or anything else discussed at the city level. I would like to pass along it was a pleasure to work with the rest of the council members, pleasure to work with city staff, Mayor Hatch and the rest of the city department heads and city employees. Knoxville has some very good people down there and they would enjoy your continued support and I wish the city the best in the future.”

Stephens says, he believes the city is headed in the right direction and he is proud of the improvements the city has made and continues to make for the people of Knoxville. He says he is thankful for everyone’s support over the years and is excited to see what the future will bring for the city.
