The Pella community made a dent in the fight against hunger through a new event on the 4th of July. American Legion Post 89 held a 5K Ruck March this morning. David Robbins with the local American Legion and Army National Guard says the event featured 70 participants, which has him excited for the future of the event and the impact it can make locally. Walkers and runners carried a military style backpack with food donations from the Pella Memorial building, past Central College, down the Volksweg Trail just past the 163 bridge, and back to downtown. Four large tables were filled with non-perishables, all benefiting the Pella Community Food Shelf.
