The Pella and Pella Christian baseball teams got together Friday evening for a doubleheader at Pella High, as heard on kniakrls.com. It was a split, with the Eagles taking game 1 9-1, and the Dutch took game 2 9-6. Among the highlights of game 1 was Will Dembski’s two home runs. He hit four total on the evening.

The Eagles wasted no time getting the bats going, scoring four runs in the first inning, taking a lead they would not relinquish. Pella Christian added one run in the second, and two runs each in the third and fourth to seal the 9-1 win. Dembski led at the plate, going 2-3 with those two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI’s. Dembski also pitched the complete game, giving up three hits, one earned run, one walk and 12 strikeouts.

In game 2, Pella Christian built a 3-0 lead after the top of the third, but Pella responded with three runs of their own to tie it up. It was a strong close to the game, as Pella scored runs in the final four innings. Pella Christian started a brief rally in the seventh, scoring two runs, but Pella closed out a 9-6 win.

River Baker was 3-3 at the plate with two doubles. Nick DeJong was 2-1 with an RBI. Ben Akers was the winning pitcher, pitching six innings, giving up five earned runs ten hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Pella moves to 9-17 overall, 6-11 in conference play. They’ll return to action Monday with a doubleheader at home against Oskaloosa. Pella Christian moves to 13-12 overall, 10-9 in Little Hawkeye games. They’ll be back in action Tuesday evening with a home game against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
