Three Gilbert runs in the first inning put the Knoxville Softball Squad in a hole the Panthers could not dig themselves out of as Knoxville fell to the Tigers 5-1 in the first round of the class 4A regional as heard on 95.3 KNIA last night. The Panthers also committed a costly error in the first inning to help bring in the three runs. Knoxville’s only run came from a mammoth solo shot to left field by Alex Griggs in the second inning. Coach Coy Hupfeld told KRLS Sports after a sloppy first inning the girls settled down defensively, but just could not get the bats to respond. The Panthers left the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings. Ashlyn Finarty took the loss going the distance giving up nine hits and walking five. The Panthers finish up 15-13 and say goodbye to seniors Alex Griggs and Emery Neer.
