For 50 years, Lake Red Rock has provided flood control, wildlife conservation, and recreation to the residents of Marion County. The special birthday was celebrated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with a re-dedication ceremony at North Overlook Beach prior to Balloonfest activities Saturday evening. Col. Steven M. Sattinger is Rock Island Engineer District commander and spoke about the importance of Red Rock to the Des Moines River basin during the commemoration. Following the re-dedication event, birthday cake was served to those at the beach, including several staff members and volunteers with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
