Down 4-1 going into the bottom of the 7th inning, the Indianola softball team scored three runs to force extra play and ended up walking it off against Southeast Polk 5-4 in the regional final Tuesday evening, sending the Indians to a return trip to Fort Dodge in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians struck first in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Brooke Tucker, but the Rams would score four unanswered with the Indians bats going quiet to go into the bottom of the 7th down 4-1. An RBI double from Brooke Tucker scored two runs to make it just a one-run game, and an RBI single from Sammie Becker would tie the score at four, forcing extra innings. The Indians had a chance in the 8th but couldn’t convert, before the 9th inning put the Indians back into the state tournament. Sammie Becker was hit by a pitch, with Emily Chaplin bunting courtesy runner Kira Matthias over to second, before a walkoff hit by Kassie Baker ended the contest for good.

No. 4 Indianola will play against No. 5 Johnston on Tuesday, July 23rd at 5:30 p.m. at the Iowa Central Field at the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge in the Class 5A state tournament quarterfinals. Hear the game live on 94.3 KNIA.
