The Pella Christian baseball team is one win away from Principal Park, but to get there, they will have to topple one of the preseason favorites to get there. The Eagles travel to Benton in Van Horne to take on No. 2 North Linn this evening. Pella Christian has been to the state tournament four times, and are seeking their first appearance since winning the 2A state title in 1994. The Lynx are trying to make it to their fourth tournament since 2015, and feature one of Iowa’s best all-around athletes — Jake Hilmer, who has the nation’s record for most hits in a baseball career and at one point this season broke the state record for consecutive at-bats with a hit, and also owns the career RBI and runs scored marks in Iowa.
