David Gravel put himself in prime position to possibly win his first Knoxville Nationals on Saturday as he won night two of the Nos Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals. After battling with Brock Zearfoss for the first ten laps, Gravel found a way around him and controlled the race from then on. Brad Sweet was the closest driver and had a couple of chances in the closing laps but never found a way around Gravel. Carson Macedo finished third for the podium. Gravel told KRLS Sports his night started off bad after he found out he would be the 53rd car out to time trail, but that was the only thing that went wrong. The top 16 are now set for Saturday’s championship race with Aaron Reutzel earning his first career Knoxville Nationals pole with Gravel along side in the first row. Defending Champion Brad Sweet will start sixth, while ten time winner Donny Schatz must race from the B-Main on Saturday. Tonight, drivers that did not make the top 26 in points must run and the top four finishers in the A-Main will fill in starting positions 21-24 in Saturday championship race.
