Central College kicker Jon Alberts was named to the D3football.com preseason all-America squad. Alberts is a third-team selection. A two-time first-team all-conference honoree, Alberts was an Academic All-America pick last year. He’s a two-time academic all-district and academic all-conference honoree. He was a second-team D3football.com All-West Region pick last season and is a two-time D3football.com Team of the Week selection. He’s received conference special teams player of the week recognition five times. He was among the nation’s best kickers a year ago and was a finalist for the Fred Mitchell Award as the top non-Division I FBS kicker based on performance and community service. Alberts set a school record with a 55-yard field goal at Wartburg College last fall, the longest kick in Division III in 2018. He also set a school mark in 2017 with four field goals in one game and 14 in a season. His field goal percentage of 87.5 (14-16) in 2017 was the best in school history (minimum of 10 attempts). In 2018, Alberts was 8-of-9 on field goals (88.9 percent) and was 5-of-5 from inside 40 yards. He also connected on 45-of-46 extra points and averaged 53.6 yards per kickoff with 12 touchbacks. For his career he is 22 of 25 on field goals and 84 of 89 on extra points. Central is preparing for its season opener against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) Sept. 7.
