It’s more than been established–when the dust settles on his career, Pella Head Football Coach Jay McKinstrey will be named among the greatest to ever roam the sidelines in Iowa. The Pella football program remains in the midst of one of the state’s all-time best runs, with three titles and a state runner-up finish in the last five years — and the Dutch gave eventual 3A state champion Xavier their biggest test of 2018 in the opening round of the playoffs. McKinstrey finds himself one win away from another milestone, and to make it happen Friday, it will come during a preseason top 10 showdown. Jay sits at 199 career wins and is a tally short from becoming just the 56th ever Iowa football coach to win 200. He has the 11th most wins among coaches active through the end of the 2018 season. No. 5 Pella opens against No. 7 DCG at home Friday — hear the game live on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
