The Tulip City Showdown kicks off the Little Hawkeye Conference Season for the new look Eagles and Lady Dutch volleyball programs this evening.

Whether it’s new head coach Dr. Joanna Settles for Pella Christian or the vast roster makeover after last year’s large graduating class for the girls in green, while the jerseys across the net will be familiar, both programs are entering different eras.

Over the weekend, the two teams met at the Bondurant Invitational, with the Lady Dutch coming back after dropping set one to the Eagles, winning 2-1 (17-21, 21-15, 15-8).

So far this year, Bailey Van Voorst has taken the next step in her development, from freshman rotation to main offensive weapon for Pella, as her 47 kills rate 11th in 4A. Ella Corbin and Meridith Rowe have 27 and 26 klls respectively with nine blocks each. The Eagles counter offensively is Molly Bolt, pacing the team with 39 kills. Natalie Harrill has been a weapon at the service line, with 10 aces in 15 total sets.

Tonight’s Tulip City varsity showdown begins at 7:15 p.m. on Eagle Lane.
