With cheers and a few tears, the Knoxville community came together for the second annual Your Life Matters 5k on Saturday. The event featured guest speakers Austin Little and Mary Neubauer who spoke to the crowd following the run, sharing their stories and encouraging unity and strength. Little, who lost his brother and father to suicide, told the crowd he wants people who are struggling to keep fighting and to know its a battle but there are people who care. He says you might not always want to take steps forward but you have to, you have to keep moving forward. The proceeds from this year’s 5k will go towards scheduling guest speaker Jeff Yalden who will visit Knoxville, September 30th through October 1st to speak with the community and Knoxville students about mental health and suicide prevention.
