The ratings were compiled by backgroundchecks.org, and took into account various categories such as violent crime rate and property crime rate, gave Indianola a rating of -.06, while Spencer was rated the safest city in Iowa with a rating of .45, Warren County neighbor Norwalk rated the second safest city with a .43 rating, and Pella ranked third with a .38 rating. The most recent statistics from the FBI were used to create the list.
