Knoxville’s Norah Pearson set another record as she won the overall title of the Newton Girls Cross Country meet in a time of 19:44 and blew away the Newton Course record by 21 seconds. The girls as a team finished ninth. On the boys side, Jordan Bacon was 41st in 19:33, with the team finishing tenth. The number six in 3A Pella boys placed fifth with 89 points at the Newton race, behind number three Clear Creek, number five Dallas Center-Grimes, and number ten North Polk. Josiah Wittenberg placed 12th, closely followed by Tony Schmitz in 14th, Cutler Turner 17th, and Thomas Gaul in 19th. The Pella Lady Dutch finished third at Newton with 92 points. Homecoming queen Caroline McMartin was second, Tirzah Wittenberg placed eighth ,Ashley Blommers was in 13th and Ellie Roorda finished at 20th. Pella’s cross country teams are off until they attend the Knoxville Invitational on October 1st. Knoxville is at the PCM Invitational on Thursday.
