A Pleasant Hill man was arrested Monday following a traffic stop near Pleasantville. According to court documents 59-year-old Thomas Freeland was stopped near Pleasantville for going 62 mph in a 55 mph zone. When law enforcement officers spoke with Freeland they could smell the odor of alcohol and marijuana. Upon further investigation Freeland admitted to officers he had smoked marijuana the night before as well as in the morning. Freeland also admitted to having marijuana and a pipe used for smoking marijuana in his vehicle. Freeland was taking to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office were officers administered a Drug Recognition Evaluation. Upon completion of the evaluation it was determined by a Drug Recognition Expert that Freeland was under the influence of cannabis enhanced by alcohol and was not capable of operating a motor vehicle safely. A breathalyzer was administered to Freeland in which his blood alcohol content registered at a .023 which is below the legal limit. Officers also asked Freeland to provide a urine specimen for chemical testing in which Freeland refused. Freeland was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated 3rd offense, a class D felony as well as possession of a controlled substance third or subsequent offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended and open container.
