The Knoxville City Council met in regular session Monday. The meeting began with members of the Knoxville Leadership Academy being recognized for their recent graduation. Following graduation the council held two public hearings regarding the rezoning of a property located at 305 N. McKinley from commercial to residential as well as 710 W. Main St. from one and two family residential to planned unit development family residential. Following both public hearings the council approved first consideration while waiving second and third consideration to rezone the properties. The property at 710 W. Main St. will be developed into three townhomes on the northeast corner of the property with two twelve unit apartment complexes to be built on the south side of the property. The planned apartment complexes will be market rate apartments, according to the developer.
The council held a discussion regarding the use of funds from the Auld Park Trust in which the funds would be used to help match funds from the Knoxville Optimist Club in which the club would like to add more play equipment to Auld Park. Following the discussion the council approved the use of the funds in which the club will pay $7,000 for new equipment with the city adding $8,000 from the Auld Park Trust.
