First place in the American Rivers Conference is on the line today at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella as the Central College football team hosts rival Wartburg.

The Knights are 8-0 this season and stand alone atop the league standings with a 6-0 record.  Right behind is Central, at 7-1 and 5-1. A Wartburg win will lock up a third straight conference championship, while a Dutch victory today would create a tie heading into next week’s season finale.

Central coach Jeff McMartin says that they’re taking the same approach they have to every other game this season.

“We haven’t ignored the fact that Wartburg is a very good football team.  Our players are very aware of their record and our record and what this game could play out to mean.  Me talking about it isn’t really going to do a lot of good, so we’ve focused on trying to give our guys an opportunity to be locked in on their job, what they have to do, and knowing what to expect.”

Game time is at 1:00 this afternoon in Pella.  Trevor Castle and George Wares will call the action live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 12:35.

If you are going to the game, make sure to bring a few non-perishable food or toiletry items, or cash donations for the 18th annual Radio Food Drive in partnership with Central’s Student Athlete Advisory Council.  The Lil’ Big Red Radio will be on site playing highlights and pregame coverage outside of the Heritage Plaza.
