With Veterans Day being held Monday, the Knoxville VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic would like to remind veterans of some of the healthcare options available for veterans throughout Marion County. One option that is new to the area is the Telehealth services provided by the VA. According to the VA, Telehealth services are mission-critical to the future direction of VA care to Veterans. Telehealth increases access to high quality health care services by using information and telecommunication technologies to provide health care services when the patient and practitioner are separated by geographical distance. The VA is committed to increasing access to care for Veterans, and has placed special emphasis on those in rural and remote locations. Pamela South with the VA tells KNIA/KRLS News Telehealth services brings the VA care to the veterans in their location of choice. South says the VA is able to utilize the services through video, through images sent through specialists as well as pairing veterans with a RN Case Manager to help with any chronic condition. Dr. Andrew Muth with the VA says veterans the VA would like to reach to inform about the services include veterans in need of flu shots or immunizations, veterans who have not seen their primary care provider in a period of time, veterans who need mental health care as well as veterans who may have fallen through the cracks of healthcare. For more information about the VA Telehealth services, contact the Knoxville VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic.
