Local legislators made a stop in Knoxville Thursday to tour local solar and energy efficiency projects. The legislators, which included state representative Jon Thorup, took a tour of the new solar panel project at the Knoxville Middle School as well as a weatherized home. Executive Director of the Iowa Community Action Association, Lana Shope tells KNIA/KRLS News the group took Representative Jon Thorup on a tour of the weatherized home so that he could see the measures that were taken to reduce the energy consumption of the home. Shope says the home had added insulation as well as a new furnace installed that helped reduce the homeowner’s energy bill by $270 over a three month span. In addition to the local legislators, representatives with Red Lion Renewables, Simpleray, Iowa Interfaith Power and Light, IMPACT Community Action Partnership and the Iowa Environmental Council were all in attendance.
