Two Knoxville men were arrested following a traffic stop in the early morning hours Wednesday. According to court documents, law enforcement officers stopped a vehicle for a nonfunctional brake light. When officers approached the vehicle they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The driver, 41-year-old James Null of Knoxville and the passenger 32-year-old Jeffery Schrader of Knoxville were detained while officers searched the vehicle. Null indicated to officers that Schrader had been throwing marijuana throughout the vehicle when the traffic stop occurred. Officers also observed a green leafy substance on Schraders shirt. Officers located two baggies of a green leafy substance under the driver’s seat as well as the same substance thrown throughout the vehicle. Officers also located a crystalline substance loosely thrown throughout the vehicle. The green leafy substance field tested positive for marjiuana, and the crystalline substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also located bags with syringes, empty marijuana and methamphetamine containers and a digital scale. Officers also located a variety of other controlled substances. Null and Schrader were both arrested and each charged with two counts of a controlled substance violation, one, a class B felony and the other a class D felony as well as failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony. Schrader was also charged with possession of a controlled substance third or subsequent offense, a class D felony and Null was also charged with driving while barred an aggravated misdemeanor.
