Emily Holterhaus surrounded by former Pella athletics teammates.

It was a Tulip City takeover of sorts when a former Pella High School great came to the Knapp Center in Des Moines to compete as a college athlete Friday night.

Emily Holterhaus, a freshman starter with the UNI Volleyball team and 2019 Pella graduate, had dozens of Lady Dutch fans make the trip to Drake University to watch her play in a 3-0 Panthers sweep of the hometown Bulldogs. Several former teammates, coaches, friends, and supporters were in full force to support Holterhaus.

UNI Head Coach Bobbi Peterson told KRLS Sports after the match that the great turnout shows the character Emily carried herself with while in high school and the amount of fans she made while wearing the green and white.

“Emily has great character and is a great student-athlete,” she says. “She’s conscientious of every part of what it takes to successful, and it’s not just about volleyball.”

In her freshman season, Holterhaus has made a significant impact for the storied UNI Panthers program, racking up 188 kills in 100 sets played, with a .208 offensive hitting efficiency and 60 total blocks. Emily was a four-year standout athlete for the Lady Dutch, racking up All-State Honors in volleyball, basketball, and track, leading Pella to four state volleyball tournament appearances, and playing a key role in the 2018 Lady Dutch track and field team championship win.
