Residents throughout Marion County and South Central Iowa will have the opportunity this weekend to see a variety of decorated Christmas Trees as the Marion County Historical Village will conduct the annual Festival of Trees event. The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday. Over 40 decorated trees will be on display throughout the village allowing visitors to admire the different decorations while taking in a bit of Marion County history according to President of the Marion County Historical Society Marla Suter. Suter says visitors are not just among the Christmas decorations, but they will be among all the artifacts of people that have come before us in Marion County, from their clothing to their old items and furniture. She says the event brings back all the old time Christmas memories. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite tree by placing a donation in the container next to the tree of their choice. Activities will be held throughout the weekend that include a scavenger hunt for children, live entertainment in the chapel, silent auctions as well as a bake sale. The event is free and open to the public, for more information contact the Marion County Historical Society.
