The PCM girls basketball team opened the season Saturday morning in Newton, taking on Chariton. The Chargers jumped out to an early lead and led 17-9 after the first quarter. The Mustangs held Chariton to only three points in the second, and PCM raced back to take a 22-20 lead into halftime.

PCM took control in the third, but Chariton cut the lead to as little as three in the fourth. The Mustangs were able to put the game away down the stretch, and sealed up a 49-39 victory.

PCM was led in scoring by Regan Freland with 23 points. Up next for the 1-0 Mustangs is a road trip to Knoxville on Tuesday evening.
