The Central basketball teams were in action in separate locations Saturday, and both the women and men picked up victories.

The women’s team hit the road to Wisconsin for the first of two games against Mount Mary. After a leading by three after one, the Dutch extended the margin to 10 at half, and put away a 71-47 win. It was the fourth quarter that proved to be the biggest difference maker, as Central outscored their opponents by 12 in the quarter.

Kelsea Hurley set a new career-high with 24 points to lead the way offensively. Also in double figures was Carson Fisk, chipping in with 11. The Dutch improve to 6-3 overall. They’ll take on Mount Mary again on Sunday afternoon, in a scheduling quirk.

The Dutch men stayed at home for a non-conference matchup with Bethany Lutheran. It was a game filled with long scoring runs, as Central held off the Vikings for a 90-89 win.

Central saw a nine-point lead turn into a 10-point deficit in the first half, only to take a 2-point lead back as the teams went to the locker room. A 10-point lead with three minutes to play was erased, but the Dutch were able to hang on for the one-point win.

Highlighting the night were Caden Mauch and Adam Flinn, who combined for 56 of the team’s 90 points. Each scored 28. Keaton Rodgers added 14 while Drake Johnson pitched in 12. Central improves to 4-4 overall, and will be back in action Wednesday at Grinnell. That game will air live on the KRLS3 stream.
