The Indianola boys swimming team won the Cardinal Invitational at Newton High School Saturday afternoon for the 9th straight time, winning with 356 points in the six team meet. Winners for the Indians included Collin Guerts 100 and 200 Freestyle, Nathan Pollard 200 Individual Medley, Brad LaGrange 400 Freestyle, and the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay teams. The Indians will next swim in the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday.

The Indianola wrestling squad competed at Newton on Saturday afternoon in a tournament, seeing several top finishers. Ryder Downey at 113lbs won three matches to earn a first place spot, Brennan Meacham won the top honors at 152lbs, Nick Bonnano was the second place finisher at 160lbs, Sean Cunningham took home the gold at 170lbs, Miles Berg won first place at 195lbs, while Jaylin Smith won five matches at heavyweight. The Indians will get back to the mats Thursday at Dallas Center-Grimes.

The Indianola basketball squads host Warren County rival Carlisle tonight in a non-conference tilt. The Indians girls are coming off their first win of the season over Norwalk to even their record at 1-1, while the boys are still looking for win number one on the season after suffering a tough pair of defeats. Head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports Carlisle isn’t going to try and trick you with any way that they play.

“Carlisle is a great school where they have a lot of multi-sport athletes, you see them in football, you see them in basketball. They are going to be tough, physical kids and we have to be sure that we can match that.”

The games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off scheduled for 6:15.
