A four month investigation into a series of local burglaries has led to the arrest of a Pella resident. On Thursday, Joshua Wielard, 30, was arrested and charged by the Pella Police Department with a burglary occurring in late July in the 1200 block of N. Prairie St.

Wielard faces one count of 2nd degree burglary, a class C felony, control of a firearm by a felon, a class D felony, and theft in the 4th degree, with additional charges pending.

According to the Pella Police Department, Wielard is accused of entering a garage while the residents were home and stole a handgun and holster. The firearm was later abandoned and found by Pella Police several blocks from the home it was stolen from. The Newton Police Department arrested Wielard last week after he was found driving a vehicle reported as stolen in Pella. Investigators with the Pella Police Department were able to identify stolen property from recent burglaries as well.

The investigation into these crimes continues, according to the Pella PD, and additional charges are forthcoming.
