The Central women’s basketball team is in the midst of their Christmas break, and this season, the Dutch find themselves in a much more favorable position, historically speaking. Central currently sits at 7-3 overall and 0-2 in American Rivers Conference play.

That mark of seven wins ties the win total of each of the last two whole seasons. Head Coach Joe Steinkamp says that while it isn’t all about the wins, his team is executing all areas of the game tremendously better than in previous years.

“It’s not necessarily just about the wins, we’re just happy with how we’re playing more than anything. Offensively we’re just a lot better than we’ve been, we’re averaging 75 points a game, which is big, we’re pushing the pace. We have four people in double figures, and more people who are also contributing. So we’re just getting a balanced attack, scoring a lot of different ways, shooting the ball from the three-point line at a higher clip, and a good balance of going inside and out.”

Instead of a long trip between Christmas and the new year, as the men’s team is doing, Central has already taken their getaway trip of the season, a weekend trip to Milwaukee on December 7th and 8th. The Dutch are off until Monday, December 30th, when they host Fontbonne in the final non-conference game of the season.
