Joyce Schipper, wife of Central College’s late College Football Hall of Fame coach Ron Schipper, passed away Sunday morning in Holland, Michigan. She was 90. Funeral service arrangements are pending. Central’s football field, Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium, was named in their honor in 2006. The former Joyce Post was a Holland native and a 1951 Hope College (Mich.) graduate. Joyce briefly served as a kindergarten teacher in Pella before becoming an English as a second language instructor. She and her family moved to Pella in 1961 when Ron Schipper was named Central’s football coach. Earlier this month he was named to a list of the 150 greatest coaches in 150 years of college football released by ESPN. She is survived by her three children, Tim and Sara, who live in Holland, and Thom, who lives in Grand Rapids, as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
