After the first seven games of the Knoxville Girls basketball season, the class 4A #14 Panthers’ calling card has been defense. With the exception of the Van Meter game, when the Panthers allowed the Bulldogs to score 56 points, no opponent has been able to reach 40 points in any game, and the Panthers have scored at least 60 points in all seven contests. With likely their toughest test of the season coming this Friday against Bondurant-Farrar, Coach Jim Uitermarkt tells KRLS Sports the defense side of the equation will still be emphasized, while getting more players involved offensively.

Uitermarkt:
“We keep playing defense like we are, we’re going to keep the score every night to where we can win even if we’re struggling on offense. We’re slowly starting to get kids involved on the scoring end and other stats of the ballgame and that’s what’s going to make us a better ball team.”

Friday’s match up could be a battle of two of the best defensive teams in class 4A as the Panthers are allowing 34.2 points per game and the Bluejays are giving up just 39 points per contest. You can hear the call of the Knoxville and Bondurant-Farrar games live on 95.3 KNIA Friday at 6:15pm.
