You can call it a Marion County invasion of the Well today in Des Moines. Three basketball squads will play games today in conjunction with the Iowa Wolves game against Memphis tonight. The Twin Cedars girls will start the day off with a game at noon against I-35. Sabers Coach Trent Verwers tells KRLS Sports this will be a different experience for his girls especially the large, cavernous facility that the Well is.

Verwers:
“There’s not going to be a shade of white wall behind the backboard it’s going to be a little different for everybody and we mentioned that in practice and there’s no way to simulate that. We’re probably going to see a lot of shots go off pretty hard off that back board early on in the game, it may be ugly for both teams. but hopefully we can get the shots to fall by the end of the game.”

The Sabers come in a 1-8 on the season while the Roadrunners are winless in seven games. Following the Sabers, the Knoxville Panthers will take over the Well for a girls/boys doubleheader. The Panthers swept the Cardinals in Des Moines last season. You can hear the call of the Knoxville games live on 95.3 KNIA starting at 1:45pm.
