The National Alliance of Mental Illness or NAMI is offering a free Family-to-Family educational program that begins tomorrow. The program will be held at the Knoxville Public Library tomorrow from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. and every Thursday following through April 2nd. The 12 session program is for family, partners, friends and significant others of adults living with mental illness. The course is designed to help all family members understand and support their loved one living with mental illness while maintaining their own well-being. April Cornelison with NAMI and who also has a son with mental illness tells KNIA/KRLS News the Family-to-Family program was so beneficial for her family that it made her and her husband become teachers of the program. She says having to deal with a person with mental illness causes your whole life to shift and gaining information on how to deal with that becomes incredibly beneficial to everyone. Childcare is available for anyone in need but advanced notice is required. For more information and to sign up call April Cornelison at (515) 314-9495 and leave a message.
