The Indianola School Board approved the PERL Levy and Revenue Purpose Statement at their most recent meeting, which will go out to the public for a vote in March. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the PERL Levy is commonly known as the playground levy, and with the tax levy going down 80 cents per $1000 this year, voting yes for the PERL Levy will not be a tax increase.

“If the PERL Levy were approved, there would not be a tax increase that came with that. What it would do is allow us to set aside money, specific funds for future playground expenses. The last five years we have redone our elementary playgrounds at the cost of $300,000-400,000 per playground just to make sure they are safe and up to date. It would be like a sinking fund or like in your personal budget setting aside money for something until you can afford to buy it.”

Sathoff also said the Revenue Purpose Statement The issue will go out to vote on March 3rd for Indianola residents.
