The Central basketball teams are back in action today as the second half of the American Rivers slate begins. It’s a road trip to Cedar Rapids to take on Coe, who swept the Dutch in their visit to Kuyper Gymnasium three weeks ago.

The Central women have won three in a row, all in conference play. That streak is the longest conference winning streak since 2002, and the Dutch are playing arguably their best basketball of the season. Coe is in the midst of a homestand, but have been stifled in their last two games by Wartburg and Loras. They’ve lost two in a row after a strong start to conference play. A win would keep the Kohawks in contention for a top-two seed.

Central’s men have not won since December fourth, and have lost nine in a row. The Kohawks have won their last two and are off to a strong 5-3 start to conference play. The Kohawks will counter with a balanced scoring attack and full-court pressure on defense. Head Coach Craig Douma says rebounding and playing with more aggression are two key areas his team needs to perform better in than last time against Coe.

Due to the postponement of Pella vs. Pella Christian high school basketball, today’s doubleheader will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream. Jon Mohwinkle will have the call from Kohawk Arena, with pregame coverage at 1:45, and the opening tipoff of the women’s game at 2:00.
