coaches-vs-cancer-2020

The Knoxville High School Gymnasium will be painted pink tonight as Knoxvlle hosts their 12th annual best in the nation Coaches vs Cancer event. A special ceremony will be held between the girls and boys basketball games with Chariton, at which time the major donations received for the event will be revealed as well as a chance to celebrate the survivors and honor those lost to cancer. Alumni basketball games and a special silent auction are held throughout the day to help raise funds for the event. Knoxville Head Girls Basketball Coach and co-organizer of the event with his wife Angie, Jim Uitermarkt tells KNIA/KRLS News the annual event is overwhelming in many ways. He says not only is the game played during a busy time of the year and in the heart of conference play, but it’s also overwhelming when it comes to the work that goes into it as well as all the emotions that come each year. The KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio will be at the event throughout the day broadcasting live, playing music and making announcements. The Knoxville girls basketball game with Chariton is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and the doubleheader can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA
