The Bluegrass Conference Tournament begins today for the Twin Cedars Sabers. Both boys and girls have a tough road to the championship next week at Moulton-Udell. The girls will host Moravia, a team that beat them this season 32-19 in December. The girls got a jolt of confidence on Thursday after steamrolling Ankeny Christian 45-9. Coach Trent Verwers tells KRLS Sports while ACA is not going to be the best team they will play all season, it was good to see his girls play well and establish the tone early.

Verwers:
“ACA won;t be the best team we’ll play this year, but you saw a matter of confidence in our girls this game. It was just a matter of taking what’s there, you really want to see that coming down the stretch and in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament this year too.”

A win by the Sabers would put them in a contest with top seed Lamoni on Tuesday. While the girls stay home, the boys travel to Diagonal to take on the Maroons in first round action. The two teams battled on January 14th with Diagonal coming away with a 12 point win. A win by Twin Cedars would get the Sabers a rematch with Ankeny Christian on Monday night. The Sabers lost to A-C-A 66-20 on Thursday..
