The Simpson women’s basketball team won its 11th game in a row after taking down Dubuque Saturday afternoon 72-46, while the men couldn’t build a winning streak as they fell to the Spartans 93-83. The Storm women outscored the Spartans 23-4 in the second quarter to build a 41-14 lead that they would not come close to relinquishing. Kia Rasmussen led the Storm with 16 points, while Cassie Nash had 10 points and 8 rebounds. The Storm men were held to just 33 first half points despite good defense and trailed 41-33 at the break. The pace picked up in the second half, but Dubuque had too much strength offensively and prevented the Storm from making a comeback attempt. Conor Riordan had 25 points in the losing effort, one of four Storm players in double figures. The Storm women are now 14-3 overall and 6-2 in American Rivers Conference play, in a 4-way tie for first place. The men are now 9-9 and 3-6. Both squads will next play Wednesday hosting Luther.
