Central College enjoyed a strong final fundraising month of 2019, continuing strong support from alumni and friends through the first half of the college’s fiscal year. In total, Central received more than $1.2 million in gifts in December as the college continues to focus on scholarships for students. In the first half of this fiscal year, 152 donors contributed $1,000 or more to the Journey Scholarship Fund, an increase of 22 donors at this level from the same time a year ago. Central raised a record $1.34 million toward the Journey Scholarship Fund from July 2018 to June 2019. During the past year, Central created 10 new endowed scholarships, bringing the total to 269. Central’s Forever Dutch initiative to finish renovations of athletics facilities has seen gifts totaling $200,000 more than this time last year. Also this year, Central welcomed its largest incoming class in five years; added three sports and two national student organizations; and completed its largest campus landscaping project in 55 years. In total for last fiscal year, more than 4,000 alumni and friends donated more than $4.6 million to the college. Total giving to date for Central this year is more than $3.8 million with more than 400 additional donors than this time a year ago.
