The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad seemed a step slow and Fairfield took full advantage on Tuesday as the Panthers were defeated 81-52. Both teams traded blows in the first quarter with the Trojans leading 19-18 after one quarter, but Fairfield outscored Knoxville 23-14 in the second to take a ten point lead and then landed the knockout punch in the third quarter leading by 15. Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KRLS Sports it was a bad night for his team and a very good night for Fairfield.

Uitermarkt:
“We were not our best and they were, and that’s what happens. We knew Fairfield was going to be a challenge because they can all shoot the three and can drive the basket. That was going to be a tough challenge because we hadn’t faced that this year, but we’re going to face it in the next two weeks.”

Maggie Wilkins scored 16 points to lead Knoxville. The Panthers finish the regular season 19-2 and await the regional pairings later this week.
